Every parent knows the annoyance of constantly leaning down and scooping up toys, bottles and dropped food from a baby’s high chair. It’s a strain on your back and often interrupts mealtimes. Thanks to the people behind KNB Innovations, that problem is solved, with the Kid’z Katch!

To find out more, we spoke with founder Kimberly Ballard.

For someone unfamiliar with KNB Innovation, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?

KNB Innovations is a start-up company, launching our innovative, mom-invented, and patented new baby product, the Kid’z Katch!, an affordable, practical highchair accessory for home and at restaurants.

It makes mealtime with baby easier by reducing clean-up time and frustration by preventing food and other items that babies drop from landing on a germ-filled floor, and helping eliminate messy spills to clean up off the ground.

Our goal is to provide Kid’z Katch! to parents and caregivers of babies everywhere!

What is the background of Kid’z Katch!? When was it created, and how has it evolved since then?

The Kid’z Katch! was invented me, a mom of two, approximately 6 years ago, when my son was 10 months old. I grew tired of bending down, picking things up, disinfecting them, sweeping and mopping the floor- just to do it all over again. It was frustrating. I thought to myself, there has to be a product out there for this problem; I can’t be the only parent faced with this. Turns out there are a few products available, but they only solve some of the issues and some create more problems. Lanyards are great for toys, but good luck tethering them to food. Splat mats and plastic tarps don’t prevent splatter or keep items from rolling away, so there’s still the constant problem of bending to the floor, plus they are a tripping hazard which makes them unsuitable for home or a restaurant.  Neatnik saucer provides a clean dining space and may help keep food and toys off the floor, but it’s bulky and takes up too much table space; also, it is only compatible with some restaurant chairs.  So I sketched out an idea in my head, went to the fabric & craft store, whipped out my old sewing machine, ripped apart a car sunshade and got busy making something that would work for me.  When finished, I was happy with my creation.  I used it every meal time because it solved my problem.  It wasn’t until after we brought it to restaurants where numerous patrons and staff praised it and asked where they could get one that I realized I have to make this available to others.

Since my home creation, I was granted a utility patent and began working with my manufacturer perfecting Kid’z Katch!, making it compatible with most types of high chairs and standard chairs. KNB Innovations will be publicly debuting the Kid’z Katch! for the first time at the LA Baby Show. The first batch is currently in production and is expected to be available for purchase by February 2017. KNB Innovations will also be launching a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the first production order.

What are the most popular and/or newest product from KNB Innovations?

KNB Innovations is very proud and excited to announce the launch of its flagship product, the Kid’z Katch!. Right now we are concentrating our efforts on bringing this practical and helpful product to market, but we are already in the process of developing more practical baby product solutions that parents and caregivers need.

What sets Kid’z Katch! apart from other baby products?

Unlike any floor mat or table topper, The Kid’z Katch! provides a conveniently placed, waterproof “safety net” that helps keep food, utensils, and spills off floors that is out of a baby’s grasp yet easily within the parent’s reach. It helps to eliminate the need for constant bending and fumbling to search for and clean up dropped food and items.  Also compatible with most high chairs, it is easily installed at home, and can be removed and packed up quickly for a more enjoyable trip to the restaurant.

What can parents expect to see from KNB Innovations and the Kid’z Katch! at the LA Baby Show?

The booth will feature the Kid’z Katch! on different high chairs, and Nolan Ballard and I, the owners of KNB Innovations, will be attending to demonstrate the features and benefits of the mom-invented creation and gain consumer feedback. Show attendees will also be able to watch feature videos and also enter to win a special prize giveaway for helping to spread the word about the Kid’z Katch!
