As a special preview of the LA Baby Show, coming up on the weekend of November 5-6, we have interviewed or profiled many of the Show’s vendors and participants. You can read all about them on this Show blog, but of course the real fun is experiencing the Baby Show in person.
Tickets to the Baby Show are $30 per family, and $20 per individual, and can be purchased here.
For the modern day mom, carrying too many things with your kids is a no-go. Parents can’t juggle nursing scarves, blankets, car seat covers and more. Native Wilds is a mom-run company that has created a single product that serves almost all of your mom needs. They also support moms all over the world by giving a portion of each sale to help moms in need throughout the globe.
To learn more about Native Wilds, we spoke with its founder, Susanna McMillan.
For someone unfamiliar with Native Wilds, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
Native Wilds creates tools for the journey of motherhood that are functional, stylish, and designed to simplify a new mama’s life. We’re proud to be part of the three percent of products made in the U.S.A. and ensure our Nest is made by people we know and trust. Empowering women is the heartbeat of Native Wilds. Whether it’s designing products that make a mom’s day a little easier or supporting our partner organization World Wide Healing Hands who provides maternal healthcare in developing countries, empowering women is a part of everything we do! $1 from each sale is donated to invest in life-saving birth kits and maternal healthcare for mamas in the most under-served areas of the world. One woman dies every two minutes due to pregnancy complications, 99% of these maternal deaths occur in developing countries, and almost all of them are preventable. A clean birth kit can reduce maternal and child mortality, and begins a cycle of health and well-being that stretches much farther than the home it is used in. We believe that when women thrive, all of society benefits!
What is the background of Native Wilds? When did it start, and how has it evolved since then?
I founded Native Wilds in 2015. I have two children and Native Wilds has grown right along with my family. My son Judah (three years) and daughter Willa (two years) were born 13 months apart which is the reason why I designed the Nest! I suddenly found myself needing so much baby gear to go out during the day and I wanted items that were multi-purpose, easy to transport, and reflected my personal style.
What are the most popular and/or newest products from Native Wilds?
Our first product is the Nest, a naturally derived, 100% USA made car seat cover, nursing scarf, and cart cover all in one with a handy, built-in pocket! Our Nest is ethically made and locally sourced in Los Angeles, start-to-finish. Babies recognize colors and patterns as early as two months, so the Nest provides a familiar environment wherever life takes them!
What sets Native Wilds apart from other baby carriers?
It’s the ultimate multi-tasker, and designed for mamas on the move! It was designed without a tapered end for flexible coverage options, so you can maintain eye contact with your babe while they are nursing or cruising in their car seat! The patented, built-in pocket stores essentials like cell phone, keys, or teething toys, while being used on a car seat or shopping cart! The Nest is made with eco-friendly, technical fabric sourced from Eucalyptus trees and there’s really nothing it can’t do! It’s ultra-soft and breathable, naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic, it regulates temperature and wicks moisture away and has a high UPF (UV Protection Factor).
What can parents expect to see from Native Wilds at the LA Baby Show?
You will get the chance to meet me, the mama behind the Nest and Native Wilds! See the new colors and try the Nest out on their favorite infant car seats.
