The Family Room Helps Families Transition Into Parenthood

Every expectant and new parent wishes there was a handbook to guide us all through the unending questions we all have. After all, learning everything we can about parenting helps navigate the bumpy road. Having support and hearing other’s experiences is also crucial. The Family Room combines all of the above, and provides community and education to support all parents.

The Family Room is a partner of the 2017 LA Baby Show, on November 4 and 5, at the Magic Box at the REEF, in DTLA, when the nation’s largest show for expectant and new families returns to Los Angeles.  A family-friendly mega-event featuring everything to do with maternity, baby, and toddler – from top products to trusted parenting experts – the LA Baby Show will welcome thousands of expectant and new parents from Los Angeles County, and the surrounding counties, and beyond!

Tickets to the LA Baby Show are $30 per family, and $20 per individual.

For someone unfamiliar with The Family Room, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?

The Family Room’s mission is to help families as they transition into parenthood, through education + community, from prenatal to preschool. We know that parenthood is not one-size-fits-all, and that there are many different feelings, philosophies, theories, approaches and, simply put, ways to do things. We also know it isn’t easy, and can help prepare you, empathize with you, cheer you on, and give you a hug.

Tell us about the company’s background. When did it start and how has it evolved since then?

The Family Room was founded in 2014, after the owner Karen Stoteraux, found a lack of resources all under one roof, for expectant parents and young families, in her community. The program has grown from prenatal classes and mommy and me groups to include lots of fun activities for toddlers!

What are the most popular or newest services from The Family Room?

Our new Toddler & Me program is really popular! We are looking to add more Mommy & Me and Toddler & Me classes on the weekends.

What sets The Family Room apart from other parenting resource centers?

The cornerstone of The Family Room is community and it is something we do really well. We have created a non-judgmental, safe space for new parents to be real. The peer-to-peer support, from Moms’ Nights Out to Postpartum Support Groups is critical to what can otherwise feel like an extremely isolating time for women.
