Track Your Baby’s Kicks With Count The Kicks

count the kicks

As expectant mommies move along in their pregnancy, they’ll start to feel their babies kick. Once that happens, Count the Kicks has a free app that you can download to track the amount of time it takes your baby to kick ten times to ensure that everything is okay with your baby. So, if you notice that your baby deviates from his or her normal pattern, you can contact your doctor immediately. Count the Kicks is a public service campaign that was started to raise awareness about stillbirth prevention, and to date, the campaign has reduced the stillbirth rate in Iowa by a whopping 26%!

Count the Kicks will be at the 2017 LA Baby Show, on November 4 and 5, at the Magic Box at the REEF, in DTLA, when the nation’s largest show for expectant and new families returns to Los Angeles. A family-friendly mega-event featuring everything to do with maternity, baby, and toddler – from top products to trusted parenting experts – the LA Baby Show will welcome thousands of expectant and new parents from Los Angeles County, the surrounding counties, and beyond!

Tickets to the LA Baby Show are $30 per family, and $20 per individual.

We spoke with a member of the Count the Kicks team, Karina Bennett, to learn more about the brand and what new parents can expect at the LA Baby Show.

For someone unfamiliar with Count the Kicks, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?

Count the Kicks is a public awareness campaign focused on stillbirth prevention. We educate moms about the importance of tracking their baby’s movements starting in the third trimester of pregnancy. Count the Kicks is based on scientific research that shows that tracking a baby’s movements daily helps reduce the chance of stillbirth. Expectant moms should count at least once a day to see how long it takes them to get to 10 kicks, rolls or jabs, soon noticing a pattern for their baby. If the amount of time it takes to get to 10 changes significantly, they should contact their provider right away because a change in the amount of time counting takes could be an indication that something is wrong.

We offer a FREE Count the Kicks app in the Google Play and Apple online stores. The app sends a daily reminder to Count the Kicks and saves kick sessions. So, if moms notice a change in what is normal for their baby, moms can show proof to their provider. You can count for a single baby and twins, as well as in English and Spanish. The app is being used around the world.

We also work closely with doctor offices, hospitals, and child birth educators to provide them with tools and resources to have the kick counting conversation with their patients.

Tell us about the background of Count the Kicks. When did it start and how has it evolved since then?

Healthy Birth Day, Inc. currently has a growing network of supportive doctors, nurses, hospitals, and clinics that give Count the Kicks materials to their patients. We have Count the Kicks Ambassadors in 18 states (including Karina Bennett representing New York and New Jersey), a national PSA that’s generated more than 300 million viewer impressions, and a monthly Huffington Post blog that reaches moms across the globe. We were just featured in the February edition of O Magazine.

What are the most popular and newest products from Count the Kicks?

Our free Count the Kicks app is quite popular. We also offer Count the Kicks posters and brochures to maternal health providers that can be ordered on our website, Materials are very low cost and can be shipped right to your office. Thanks to generous donors, health providers in Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska can order them for free.

What sets Count the Kicks apart in the maternity marketplace?

What sets us apart is that there is no other organization focused solely on kick counting. There are many maternal health organizations that support kick counting and tout its benefits, but we are the only ones focused on fetal movement and have created this original campaign that is now saving babies across the U.S.

What can parents expect from Count the Kicks at the LA Baby Show?

We’re so excited to meet expectant parents at the LA Baby Show! We like to have a good time as we spread the word about Count the Kicks! Our team will be passing out some “Kick” Kats as we hand out Count the Kicks materials. We will be in front of the bright yellow backdrop where you can also hear inspirational stories about moms all across the U.S. who saved their babies through kick counting. And, of course, we’ll be showing folks how to download and use our free Count the Kicks app!
