As a special preview of the LA Baby Show, coming up on the weekend of November 5-6, we have interviewed or profiled many of the Show’s vendors and participants. You can read all about them on this Show blog, but of course the real fun is experiencing the Baby Show in person.
Tickets to the Baby Show are $30 per family, and $20 per individual, and can be purchased here.
There are a myriad of choices for baby wipes, but almost all of them still contain a variety of chemicals and man-made ingredients. This wasn’t good enough for one mom, so she created WaterPura. They make all-natural wipes that are entirely water, with just a touch of citrus.
We spoke to WaterPura founder Emily Frazer to learn more.
For someone unfamiliar with WaterPura, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
WaterPura’s mission is to give moms a safe and easy way to keep their baby clean all day without chemicals. WaterPura baby water wipes are made with 99.9% water and a drop of citrus extract.
What is the background of WaterPura? When did it start, and how has it evolved since then?
My idea for WaterPura started in 2013 after I was blessed with my beautiful redheaded baby boy, Archie. I knew I would have to be careful with his sensitive skin, and although I was very conscientious about keeping his bottom clean, he developed a terrible diaper rash and I started to think that the baby wipes I was using were part of the problem. Although they claimed to be “natural,” the back of the package looked like all the rest—an alarming list of chemical ingredients.
I switched immediately to soft cloths and water, and my baby got better. So I asked myself, “Why can’t there be a baby wipe with just water and no chemicals?” And the story of WaterPura began.
The first thing I learned was that this was going to be harder than I thought. Fortunately, my day job was working in the family business – we manufacture private brand laundry and household cleaning products – so I knew something about production and quality control. But the biggest advantage the family business gave me was a network of scientists and independent testing labs. I made many Ziploc bags of chemical-free wipes in my kitchen, and day-by-day, we got better and better, until finally in May of 2016 we had something that really worked.
In July of 2016, I made my first production run of 500 sample packs. Everything tested out perfectly, and people loved them! So my sister designed a fun soft-pack, and in October of 2016, we made 10,000 more.
It took about three years from idea to production, and that might seem like a long time. I was a new mom with a full time job, and this product had to be perfect. I really feel we’ve created something special here.
What are the most popular and/or newest products from WaterPura?
Our newest and most popular product is the original: Chemical-free baby wipes in a 60-count soft-pack with a rigid lens lid. We’ll also make 10-ct travel packs for parents on the go.
What sets WaterPura apart from other baby wipes companies?
WaterPura baby wipes are the only American-made, chemical-free water wipes in the world! They’re soft and strong and leave a fresh, clean feel—no oils or fragrances. These wipes were created by a concerned mother, and I only want the best for every child.
What can parents expect to see from WaterPura at the LA Baby Show?
We will have WaterPura water wipes, samples, demos, videos, and lots of testimonials and feedback from happy moms. Plus, you will get to see pictures of my cute kid.
